Find community through an Option B Gathering

Join a small, supportive online group for real conversations about grief.

What is an
Option B Gathering?

When you’re grieving, the most compassionate support can often come from those who share your experiences. Sometimes the people who just “get it” can be hard to find. When you sign up for a virtual Option B Gathering, you’ll be thoughtfully matched with a small group of people you’ll meet regularly with. Your Gathering will be led by someone who has also experienced the loss of a loved one. You can talk openly about your experiences with grief—the difficult times, the joyful moments, and everything in between. No matter who you are, or what experience with grief brings you here, you can find a supportive community at an Option B Gathering.

What should I expect?

You can expect a welcoming and supportive online group, and an opportunity to build meaningful connections with people who know grief intimately, like you do.

We will connect you with a group of 12 to 15 peers whose experiences have something in common with yours—whether that’s who you’ve lost, the stage of life you’re in, or how grief is affecting you right now. A trained host will then gather your group on a video call and kick off an open, informal conversation. You’ll talk for about 90 minutes to two hours. You can share as much or as little as you’d like.

Host an Option B Gathering

Hosting is a powerful way to support others and find meaning after loss. You’ll make a great host if you can model openness and vulnerability, reflect honestly on how grief shows up in your life, and encourage conversation by asking questions and highlighting common threads.

Here’s how hosting works:

  • 1

You share a bit about yourself in a short application

  • 2

You attend a brief online training session with our team

  • 3

We match you with a group and help plan your first Gathering

Our goal is to make hosting simple, so you have the space to fully participate in your Gathering in addition to facilitating. We provide tools, resources, and ongoing support—including regular office hours with the Option B team—to make sure you’re set up for success.

Read our FAQs for more information about hosting.

Join an Option B Gathering

By joining an Option B Gathering, you’ll get support that can help you cope and feel seen as you grieve a major loss. And you’ll help others cope with their grief, too. Every member brings valuable empathy and perspective to these conversations, so we hope you’ll join us.

Here’s how joining works:

  • 1

You share a bit about yourself in a short application

  • 2

We match you with peers who’ve had similar experiences

  • 3

Your host reaches out about your first Gathering

There’s no long-term commitment when you join, but our hope is that your Gathering will become a close community that you can turn to for support and assurance on an ongoing basis.
